Use of tri-sodium citrate in hemodialysis

چکیده

Tri-sodium citrate, the focus of this article, is one such alternative. The article will include consideration of the anticoagulant properties of citrate, some detail of how tri-sodium citrate is used to anticoagulate the dialysis pathway, and the advantages of using citrate rather than standard heparin anticoagulation. The use of tri-sodium citrate is not without risk; the potentially harmful metabolic changes, including disturbance of acid-base balance, that can be associated with tri-sodium citrate anticoagulation will be discussed. The article begins with a very brief outline of the range of hemodialysis modalities used to treat those with failing kidneys.

Locking solutions for hemodialysis catheters; heparin and citrate--a position paper by ASDIN.

There is wide variation in the use of solutions to "lock" or fill tunneled central venous catheters for dialysis. Some centers use undiluted heparin concentrations ranging from 1000 to 10,000 U/ml and other centers place from 1000 to 10,000 U per lumen. Based on available evidence, it appears that heparin 1000 U/ml, or 4% sodium citrate are suitable choices for lock solution to maintain patency...

Concentrated Sodium Citrate (23%) for Catheter Lock.

For chronic central venous dialysis catheters, the standard method for maintaining catheter patency between treatments is to instill (lock) catheters with 5000 - 10 000 units of heparin in each lumen. Sodium citrate (citrate) is an anticoagulant with intrinsic antibacterial activity (at 20% concentration or higher). Citrate has only transient anticoagulant effects if accidentally infused to the...

Is Taurolidine-citrate an effective and cost-effective hemodialysis cathe-ter lock solution? A systematic review and cost- effectiveness analysis

Background: Prevention of catheter-related infection is of prime importance,. However, because of the risks caused by the leakage of circulating antibiotics and development of resistance to antibiotics, they are replaced by lock solutions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and cost- effectiveness of taurolidine-citrate as a hemodialysis catheter lock solution compared to other ...

The Effect of pH on the Liquid-liquid Equilibrium for a System Containing Polyethylene Glycol Di-methyl Ether and Tri-potassium Citrate and its Application for Acetaminophen Separation

In this work liquid-liquid equilibrium for aqueous two phase system composed of polyethylene glycol di-methyl ether and tri-potassium citrate at different medium pH values (6.00, 7.00 and 8.00) and 298.15 K was studied. The obtained results show that two phase area expanded with an increasing of pH values. The performances of the Merchuk and semi-empirical equations were tested in correlating t...

Minimizing Hemodialysis Catheter Dysfunction: An Ounce of Prevention

The maintenance of tunneled catheter (TC) patency is critical for the provision of adequate hemodialysis in patients who are TC-dependent. TC dysfunction results in the need for costly and inconvenient interventions, and reduced quality of life. Since the introduction of TCs in the late 1980s, heparin catheter lock has been the standard prophylactic regimen for the prevention of TC dysfunction....
